Sunday, June 3 is the official board meeting at 7pm.

Please remember to make your donations to the Downtown Mission can on the table in the Nathex to bring food for the Essex Food Bank and to save all yourself used postage stamps for the Leprosy Mission. Thank you for your support.

Please remember all the sick and shut-ins, those in the hospital, homebound, in rest or nursing homes, those who mourn, are lonely, depressed, or less fortunate and any others not well at this time in your thoughts and prayers, with a card, call or visit.

 

Paquette News – St. Stephen’s/Church of the Redeemer

Faithville Gospelcast Productions is having its annual fundraising banquet on Sunday, May 27th at 1:30 p.m. at St. Mary’s Hall, Maidstone with guest speaker Phil Callaway. For information on the event or tickets, call 519-737-9500.

St. Stephen’s Homecoming Service will be on Sunday, June 10th at 10 a.m. All other services that day are cancelled. Guest speaker will be Rev. Don Hull. Luncheon to follow the service.

Vacation Bible School will be July 9 – 13th. This year’s theme is God’s Green Earth. Invite your friends and register on line. A box at the back of the churches is set up for collecting recycled items to be used during our event. For list of items or if you can volunteer some time, please contact Dawn or Pam.

Celebrating birthdays are Jesse Durocher, Bobby Sweet, Addison Mactier, John Field, Todd Mactier, Alexis Reyner, and  Bronwen Reilly.

Please continue to remember the need for food banks – donations may be dropped off at either church.

Gardeners are busy planting their vegetable and flowers. Why not plant an extra row and donate the vegetables to the Essex Food Bank?

On Sunday, May 27, Faithville Productions are holding a fundraiser at St. Mary’s Hall, at 1:30 pm. For event information or tickets please call Lorriane Collins at 519-737-9500.

There will be a special Mass at St. Mary’s honouring Fr. Chris Quinlan on Sunday, June 3rd at 1 p.m., celebrating the 50th Anniversary of his Ordination to the Priesthood.  Following Mass there will be an Open House in the hall.  Everyone is welcome!

Sunday, June 10th is Cemetery Sunday with Mass in the cemetery at 9am. Come and decorate the graves of your loved ones. Bring a lawnchair and enjoy refreshments afterward served by the Mission Society.

Celebrating birthdays are Krystle Quinlan, Elaine Deehan, and Justin Pulleybank. Please keep Hank Czerweinec in you prayers. Sympathies to Maggie Bernard and family on the passing of her husband Gord.

St. Paul’s/Trinity Anglican

The next Family Service is on June 3  at Trinity, 7 p.m. Come for campfire evening song. To make a donation to the youth program and family service, write “youth program” on a visitor’s envelope.

St. Paul’s Victorian Tea is Saturday, May 26 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

A service with a difference on May 27 at 9:30 is at St. Paul’s, as one combined service.

As we come to the end of the school year our young people will lead our one joint service of worship, sharing their wisdom and energy on June 10, at 9:30, at Trinity. Pot luck lunch follows and a surprise visitor.

Join us for Family Worship and Sunday School  led by Lt. Kristen Gray , every Sunday at 11 a.m. We have nursery facilities and are wheelchair accessible.

Kids Klub will be cancelled on the 21st due to the Victoria Day holiday. The Year End Party will be on the 28th at 6:30 p.m.

The Ministry Team will meet at 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 24th.

Essex United Church News

The 50th anniversary of the UCW will be celebrated at Bethel Maidstone on Tuesday, May 29. The late Marion Gillies was the first Essex UCW president.

There is a chicken dinner and strawberry social planned for Saturday, June 9.

If you are interested in having a child baptized on Father’s Day, June 17, call the church or Jim Hatt.

All are welcome at our 10am worship service every Sunday morning. Rev. Linda Hollingsworth will be bringing the message. Sunday school is available for the Children.

Kids club is every Tuesday at 3:30pm led by Rev. Linda Hollingsworth. All elementary school age children are invited. Spread the word.

Wednesday night at 7pm a video series entitled “God’s Story, Your Story” will be held at the Jones home in Essex.

Congratulations to Sandra Helkie, who passed her Master’s Degree in Nursing and will graduate in June.

Our deepest sympathy to the family of Steven Bosse, who passed away June 2.

St. Vincent De Paul Society: Annual sleepwalk on Saturday, May 26 at 7am at Assumption church. All donations help to purchase beds for the most needy in our area. Please support this worthy event.

Social Sunday: Sunday, May 27th after each mass in the gather space. Come and share fellowship!

Life Teen: The next mass will be on Sunday, May 27th at 7pm. Again we invite our Grade 8 students to join us for mass and the Life Night  afterwards.

Members Banquet; Tuesday, June 5, with cocktails at 5pm and dinner at 6pm. Spouses are welcome. Tickets available at the parish office, or by calling Jan at 776-5506 before May 31.

Garden Commitee: Spring planting and beautifying of the grounds on Saturday, June 2, beginning at 8:30am. Bring a wheelbarrow, gloves and garden tools and join us. All are welcome to help us!

Fr. Chris Quinlan’s 50th anniversary of his Ordination to the priesthood will be celebrated at a special mass on Sunday, June 3, at 1pm at St. Mary’s Church in Maidstone.There will be an open house to follow at St. Mary’s parish Hall. Everyone is welcome.

The Pleasant Valley Community Club held a Pepper party and the lucky folks were Mike Foldesi, Ben Wells, Al McLellan, Eileen Ames, Elaine Taylor and Annette Assy. For the Euchre party on

Saturday the lucky folks were Jo Ann Diesbourg, Ethel Ford, Eileen Ames, Elaine Taylor, Ewald Dobetsburger, Keith Dresser & Bob Matthew. Door prizes to John Smith & Alice Crawford. Come on down and join in for an enjoyable evening of cards!

Woodslee Friendship Club

Euchre results for May 7: George Davidson, Bob Mullins, George Sutherland, Ursala Tracey, Edna Chevalier / Donna Eyraud, and Mary Demars.

Pepper results for May 9: High Score – Audrey Stanley and Most peppers shared by Ursala Tracey and Veronica Granger.

Please note that next month’s pot luck will be on June 15 as we celebrate our exercise class with teacher Carol Taylor leading our “Seniors Struttin” demo class.

Join a fun loving group of people who will help you learn euchre or pepper and serve up a delicious snack at halftime. The Millen Community Centre is located at
1925 South Middle Road in South Woodslee.

 

Essex Retirees Social Club

Regina Garrod won first place with high score at our special Monday Night Pepper the end of April.  Isabelle McLeod had second.  David Sylvester third and Audrey Ostrander fourth.  Winners for our regular Monday Night Pepper on May 7 were Shirley Stiers followed by Walter Hyland and Mary Lou Chibi with low.

Audrey Ostrander AND Judy Kelly tied for first place with high score at Saturday Euchre while Tom Kelly had second highest points.

Tuesday Afternoon Pepper winners, Virgery Cascadden had high score followed by Floyd Cascadden with 1 pt difference. A tie for the most Peppers by Regina Garrod and Cecilia Edwards.  Larry Lane had low score.

On May 2nd Don Ames had high score at Wednesday Night Pepper and Betty Fields earned the most Peppers.  Isabel McLeod had low. Cecile St. Denis won with high score on May 9.  Betty Fields had the most Peppers and Eileen Gardiner was low.

Our next Friday Night Bingo falls on Friday, May 18.  All players over the age of 18 are welcome to join us at 7:15 p.m.

Saturday Euchre will be played on May, 19 at 1:00.  All are welcome to join us.

The kitchen and office are closed on Monday May 21 for Victoria Day.  Other regular activities will be played.
